TEHRAN – Web Desk: Iran has described the joint defense agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey as a sign of changing perceptions regarding the United States in the region, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei.
Baghaei said the defense cooperation among three major regional countries indicates that regional states are adopting new approaches to their security arrangements. Over the past three years, regional countries have concluded that security is not something that can be purchased from “false or fake mediators,” he said.
Baghaei said regional states have learned from experience that instead of relying entirely on external powers for security, they need reality-based and regionally feasible measures. Any plan that takes into account ground realities and correctly identifies risks could help establish security and prevent instability, he added.
Such measures could also help protect the region from instability caused by the Israeli threat, Baghaei said. The recent defense cooperation among the three countries is being seen as a significant development in the changing security landscape of the region.
