Washington, United States – Web Desk: The United States has issued a strong message to India over maritime operations in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing strict compliance with American military instructions for all commercial vessels passing through the strategic waterway.
According to international media reports, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio conveyed the warning during a telephone conversation with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
The U.S. State Department said Rubio made it clear that all commercial ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz must immediately comply with directives issued by U.S. forces. He also stressed that smuggling of Iranian oil and violations of American sanctions would not be tolerated.
Rubio reportedly warned that any vessel operating in the region must follow U.S. naval instructions, adding that enforcement actions would continue against illicit oil transportation linked to Iran.
The statement comes after reports of a recent incident in which a tanker with Indian crew members was allegedly targeted near the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the deaths of three Indian nationals. The remaining crew members were reportedly rescued by the Omani coast guard.
Following the incident, India summoned a U.S. diplomat and formally lodged a strong protest, calling the action unacceptable and unnecessary.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes, and tensions in the region continue to raise global concerns over maritime security and oil supply stability.
