Washington, United States – Web Desk: US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has triggered controversy after suggesting that Israel would have the right to control vast parts of the Middle East, citing religious scripture during a media interview.
According to international news agencies, Huckabee made the remarks during a program with US political commentator Tucker Carlson. When questioned about Israel’s potential territorial boundaries, he referred to a biblical verse and said that the land was given to the Israelites by God, adding that Israel’s control over a broader region would not be objectionable. He also referenced the concept of Israel stretching from the Nile River to the Euphrates River.
Experts note that the idea of territory from the Nile to the Euphrates is associated with the extremist “Greater Israel” ideology, which envisions control over large areas including parts of Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, the Mediterranean region, and Iraq.
Huckabee was appointed US ambassador to Israel by President Donald Trump last year. His comments come amid heightened international criticism over Israeli land designation policies in the occupied West Bank, where nearly 100 countries and major global and regional blocs have condemned recent actions.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called on Israel to reverse its latest move to classify land in the West Bank as state property, describing it as “illegal” and a source of instability for the region.
