Washington, United States – Web Desk: The Director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent, has resigned from his position, citing opposition to the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to statements released on social media.
Kent said he could not support the war against Iran “in good conscience,” arguing that Tehran did not pose an immediate threat to the United States. He further claimed the conflict was influenced by pressure from Israel and its lobbying presence in Washington.
In his resignation letter addressed to President Donald Trump, Kent alleged that Israeli officials played a role in drawing the United States into the conflict, including through what he described as a misinformation campaign.
He also compared the current situation to the lead-up to the 2003 Iraq War, warning against what he sees as repeated patterns of justification for military action.
Kent, a veteran of multiple combat deployments, referenced his personal experience, including the loss of his wife, Shannon Kent, who was killed during a military operation in Syria. He said he could not support sending another generation into a war that he believes does not serve US national interests.
The resignation highlights growing divisions within US policy circles over the handling of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
