Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: FIFA has rejected Iran’s request to relocate its FIFA World Cup 2026 matches from the United States to Mexico, reaffirming that the tournament will proceed according to the official schedule.
Iran’s Football Federation President Mehdi Taj said discussions were ongoing to move matches due to security concerns, citing remarks attributed to former US President Donald Trump suggesting it may not be safe for Iran’s team to travel to the United States.
However, FIFA stated that all fixtures would be held as planned under the schedule released on December 6, 2025. The governing body added it remains in contact with all participating teams and is committed to ensuring a smooth tournament across host nations.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Reports indicate that relocating matches would present significant logistical challenges.
The development comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions, with earlier statements from Iranian officials raising doubts about participation in the tournament.
