Istanbul, Turkey – Web Desk: Turkey has unveiled a new generation of advanced naval drones, including the “Tufan” unmanned surface vehicle, during a major defense exhibition in Istanbul, highlighting the country’s growing capabilities in maritime warfare technology.
The drone was presented by Turkish defense company ASELSAN and is designed for autonomous naval operations, surveillance, reconnaissance, and intelligence-gathering missions.
According to the company, the “Tufan” drone measures 8.1 meters in length and is powered by a petrol engine combined with a water-jet propulsion system, enabling high-speed maneuverability and rapid deployment in both coastal waters and open seas.
A key feature of the system is its swarm intelligence capability, allowing it to operate individually or as part of a coordinated fleet of drones to conduct simultaneous missions, including surveillance and potential strike operations.
The drone is equipped with advanced autonomous navigation systems, obstacle-avoidance technology, and vision-based target identification systems, significantly enhancing its operational efficiency in complex maritime environments.
Officials said the “Tufan” is also fitted with a high-explosive warhead, enabling it to target naval vessels, coastal infrastructure, and strategic military assets.
Defense analysts say Turkey is rapidly expanding its defense technology sector, particularly in unmanned systems and naval drones, positioning itself as an emerging global player in modern warfare technologies.
