Trump Weighs Limited Airstrikes on Iran Amid Tensions

Date:

Washington-Web Desk : US President Donald Trump is considering launching limited airstrikes against Iran as tensions rise following stalled diplomatic efforts, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

The report states that Trump and his close advisers are evaluating targeted military options, alongside strategies to maintain pressure on Tehran, including a potential blockade of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

These options are being discussed after recent US-Iran negotiations failed to produce a breakthrough. Officials familiar with the matter suggest the measures are intended to increase leverage over Iran and push talks forward.

While Trump retains the authority to order a broader aerial bombing campaign, the report indicates that such a move is currently considered less favorable due to the risk of escalating regional instability.

Instead, a more limited and time-bound approach — including selective air operations or controlled maritime restrictions — is being explored.

The report also noted that Trump has consistently sought to avoid prolonged military engagements, reflecting his policy stance against long-term wars.

In addition, Washington may urge allied nations to assume a greater role in securing maritime routes in the Gulf, particularly to ensure the safe passage of oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz — a critical artery for global energy supply.

Analysts warn that any escalation, even if limited, could have significant implications for regional security, global oil markets, and ongoing diplomatic efforts.
