Washington, United States – Web Desk: A significant development has emerged in negotiations between the United States and Iran, with US President Donald Trump reportedly requesting major revisions to a preliminary draft agreement reached with Iranian negotiators.
According to a report by Axios, Trump has asked for several amendments to the proposed deal, particularly regarding provisions related to Iran’s nuclear program. Sources familiar with the discussions said the US president remains committed to securing an agreement but wants key clauses to be stronger, clearer, and more enforceable.
A US official told Axios that Trump reviewed the draft agreement during a high-level meeting in the White House Situation Room and instructed advisers to revise several sections before moving forward.
The report said Trump is seeking greater clarity on the future of Iran’s enriched uranium, including how existing stockpiles would be handled and whether they would be transferred under any final agreement.
US officials believe these provisions should be defined more explicitly to prevent future disputes or differing interpretations once the agreement is implemented.
The president is also reportedly seeking changes to language concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the restoration of maritime navigation, arguing that the terms should be more robust and practical.
According to the report, the proposed US amendments have already been sent to Tehran, and Iranian officials are expected to respond within the next three days.
Sources indicated that if both sides can resolve the remaining differences, a final agreement could potentially be reached within a week or even sooner.
Analysts say a successful deal would represent one of the most significant diplomatic breakthroughs between Washington and Tehran in recent years, although issues related to Iran’s nuclear activities and regional security remain central to the negotiations.
