Mumbai, India – Web Desk: Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has addressed speculation surrounding his recent decision to unfollow several high-profile celebrities on Instagram, including Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
The move sparked widespread discussion on social media after users noticed that Johar had significantly reduced the number of accounts he follows despite having more than 17 million followers on the platform.
Responding to the speculation, Johar clarified through an Instagram Story that the decision was part of a personal “digital detox.” He said he wanted to reduce the amount of time and energy he spends on social media and described the unfollowing activity as a personal choice rather than a significant development.
Several other Bollywood personalities, including Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Malaika Arora and Ananya Panday, were also reportedly removed from his following list.
Fans were particularly surprised to see Kartik Aaryan unfollowed, despite his involvement in one of Johar’s upcoming film projects.
Currently, Johar follows a limited number of people on Instagram, including close business associates and a small group of industry figures. Actress Priyanka Chopra remains among the accounts he continues to follow.
This is not the first time Johar has distanced himself from social media. In 2022, he left X, formerly known as Twitter, stating that he wanted to promote greater positivity in his life.
