New Delhi, India – Web Desk:
In a recent statement, U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the February 2, 2026, US-India trade deal, calling it one-sided, favoring the United States while leaving India to bear the bulk of tariffs.
Trump clarified that despite the agreement with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India continues to impose tariffs, while the U.S. does not. “Nothing has changed,” he said, emphasizing that the benefit of the deal goes solely to the United States.
Experts note that Trump’s statement undermines India’s diplomatic narrative that hailed the deal as a historic achievement. Analysts argue that if India is paying the financial cost post-agreement, claiming success could be misleading.
This follows a series of trade pressures in 2025, including warnings on iPhone production, 25% tariffs on Indian goods in July, and additional tariffs on Russian oil purchases in August, highlighting a period of intense US economic leverage on India.
