Bannu Attack Foiled; 5 Militants Killed, 2 Soldiers Martyred

Date:

Bannu – Web Desk: Security forces foiled a suicide attack on their convoy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, killing five militants during an intelligence-based operation, while a lieutenant colonel and a soldier embraced martyrdom, according to the military’s media wing.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said militants attempted to target the convoy using an explosives-laden vehicle. The suicide bomber was intercepted by the leading security detail, preventing what officials described as a major attack aimed at civilians and law enforcement personnel in Bannu city.

During the ensuing exchange of fire, five militants were killed. However, the attackers rammed an explosive-filled vehicle into one of the convoy’s vehicles, resulting in the martyrdom of Lieutenant Colonel Shehzada Gul Faraz and Sepoy Karamat Shah.

ISPR stated that Lieutenant Colonel Faraz was known for his courageous leadership and was commanding troops from the front lines at the time of the operation.

The military alleged that the militants were operating from across the border and criticized the Afghan authorities for failing to prevent their territory from being used for attacks against Pakistan. The statement reiterated that operations under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” vision would continue to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack and paid tribute to the fallen soldiers.

President Zardari expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom and extended condolences to the bereaved families, stating that the sacrifices of the armed forces strengthen the nation’s resolve against terrorism.

Prime Minister Sharif praised the security forces for thwarting the militants’ “malicious intentions,” emphasizing that terrorism has no religion and that the nation stands united with its armed forces in the fight against extremism.

Interior Minister Naqvi lauded the bravery of Lieutenant Colonel Faraz, saying his sacrifice would be remembered as a symbol of courage and patriotism.

Authorities affirmed that operations against militant elements will continue with full force to ensure national security and stability.
