T20 World Cup: ICC Rules Pakistan Loses Points if Match Boycotted

Date:

Pakistan’s boycott vs India could cost 2 points and heavily impact net run rate

Karachi, Pakistan | Web Desk: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that the national team will boycott the T20 World Cup match against India, a decision that could have significant repercussions in the tournament standings.

According to ICC Rule 16.10.7, if a team refuses to play a scheduled match, it is considered as if the team batted for 20 overs and scored zero runs. Consequently, Pakistan will lose 2 points, and their net run rate will be negatively affected, while India will gain 2 points automatically.

Pakistan is placed in Group A alongside India, Namibia, Netherlands, and the USA. The team will open the campaign against the Netherlands on 7 February, face the USA on 10 February, and Namibia on 18 February.

The ICC’s regulations ensure that even a boycotted match affects statistical standings, highlighting the potential consequences of political decisions on sports outcomes.
