MONTERREY – Web Desk: Sweden delivered a dominant performance in their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener, crushing Tunisia 5-1 in a Group F match played in Monterrey.
Yasin Ayari capitalized on a Tunisian defensive error in the 7th minute to give Sweden the lead. Alexander Isak doubled the advantage in the 30th minute with a beautiful finish from Viktor Gyökeres’ pass. Tunisia pulled one back before halftime through Omer Rekik’s header, but Sweden regained full control in the second half.
Sweden added two more goals in the 59th and 84th minutes to seal the victory. Svanberg scored just 12 seconds after coming onto the field, becoming the fastest substitute goalscorer in World Cup history. In injury time, Ayari scored his second goal — Sweden’s fifth — to send his team to the top of Group F.
