The Supreme Court registry has returned the government’s review petition challenging the order to shift Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to a private hospital.
WEB DESK: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has returned the government’s review petition challenging its order to shift former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to a private hospital.
According to the report, the Supreme Court’s registry raised objections to the government’s petition and returned it rather than accepting it for further proceedings.
Government had challenged hospital transfer order
The government had filed the review petition against the Supreme Court’s earlier direction concerning Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.
The court had ordered that Khan be shifted to the private hospital under strict security arrangements and directed that a medical board be constituted to oversee his treatment.
The government subsequently approached the Supreme Court seeking a review of that order.
Review petition returned by registry
The latest development concerns the procedural stage of the government’s challenge. The petition was returned by the Supreme Court registry after objections were raised.
The development does not, by itself, amount to a final judicial decision on the government’s underlying challenge to the hospital-transfer order.
Further legal steps by the government will depend on how it responds to the objections raised by the registry.
Imran Khan’s medical treatment remains under focus
The dispute over Khan’s medical treatment has been accompanied by wider legal proceedings concerning his access to doctors, family members and medical records.
The Supreme Court had previously directed that Khan receive comprehensive medical care and that relevant medical records be produced before the court.
The court had also ordered arrangements for family meetings while stressing that his medical treatment should not become a subject of political activity.
The latest petition and its return by the registry add another development to the ongoing legal proceedings concerning Khan’s health and treatment.
