Five militants killed in Panjgur intelligence-based operation: security sources

Date:

Security sources say several militants were wounded and a large cache of weapons, ammunition and vehicles was recovered during the operation in Balochistan.

WEB DESK: Security forces killed at least five militants and wounded several others during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, security sources said on Thursday.

The operation was conducted in the Kali Suran area as part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3, according to security sources.

Militants were allegedly preparing for attack

According to security sources, motorcycle-borne militants were travelling through the area when security forces targeted them using advanced weapons.

Sources said the militants were allegedly en route to carry out a terrorist attack.

A significant cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered following the operation, along with three vehicles, two motorcycles, an improvised explosive device (IED) and a flag belonging to a banned organisation, the sources said.

Militants linked to multiple criminal activities

Security sources alleged that the group was involved in several violent activities, including target killings, kidnappings and armed robberies.

The militants were also allegedly planning suicide attacks, according to the sources.

The identities of those killed and wounded were not immediately disclosed.

Counterterrorism operations continue in Balochistan

The latest operation comes amid an intensified security campaign against militant groups in Balochistan.

Security forces had also conducted separate intelligence-based operations in Ziarat, Harnai and Surab districts on August 18, killing more than nine militants, according to security sources.

Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain among Pakistan’s main hotspots for militant violence.

A recent report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies said the two provinces accounted for nearly 96% of violence-related fatalities recorded in Pakistan during the second quarter of 2026.

According to the report, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 475 deaths, while Balochistan accounted for 265 during the quarter.

The latest operation underscores the continued focus of Pakistani security forces on intelligence-led actions aimed at disrupting militant networks and preventing planned attacks.
