Iran’s economic blockade is US economic terrorism, says Araghchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accuses Washington of using economic pressure against Tehran to divert attention from its own financial challenges.

WEB DESK: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of using economic pressure against Iran as a form of “economic terrorism,” amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Araghchi criticised US President Donald Trump’s latest economic measures against Iran, arguing that Washington’s campaign would have consequences beyond Iran and could threaten the global economy and the sovereignty of other countries.

Araghchi criticises Trump’s economic campaign

In a post on X, Araghchi referred to what the Trump administration has described as an “Economic D-Day” against Iran.

The Iranian foreign minister argued that the US campaign was intended to divert attention from America’s own economic difficulties, including rising debt and interest costs.

He also criticised Washington for continuing what he described as failed policies, warning that increasing economic pressure would not achieve its intended objectives.

Iran warns of wider global impact

Araghchi said US economic measures against Iran could pose risks to the broader international economy and national sovereignty.

His comments come as Washington steps up pressure on countries and businesses maintaining financial, commercial or logistical links with Tehran.

The Trump administration has warned that countries supporting Iran’s economy could face significant economic consequences, including measures targeting activities linked to Iranian oil, financial transfers, shipping and other forms of trade.

Tensions remain high between Washington and Tehran

The latest exchange comes amid continuing tensions over Iran’s economy, energy exports and its broader relationship with the United States.

Washington’s strategy is aimed at increasing Iran’s economic isolation, while Tehran has repeatedly rejected US pressure and sanctions.

Iranian officials have argued that intensified restrictions could disrupt international trade, energy markets and global supply chains.

Araghchi’s latest comments underline Tehran’s opposition to Washington’s economic campaign and its warning that the consequences could extend beyond the two countries.
