Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Sindh government is considering imposing a smart lockdown to manage a growing energy crisis triggered by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Provincial Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said the situation could worsen if the conflict continues, stressing the need for fuel conservation measures and proactive steps to prevent a full-scale crisis.
He noted that global instability has already impacted energy supplies, prompting the provincial government to act early. As part of initial measures, the Sindh government has reduced fuel allocation for official vehicles by 40%, limiting supply to 60% to curb unnecessary consumption.
Officials say the proposed smart lockdown would focus on targeted restrictions rather than a complete shutdown, aiming to reduce fuel usage while minimizing disruption to economic activity.
The move comes as Pakistan faces rising oil prices, supply chain disruptions, and pressure on energy resources, largely due to tensions affecting key global routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
Authorities are expected to make a final decision after reviewing the evolving situation and its potential impact on the province’s energy needs.
