Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Sindh government has assured transporters of full support following the recent surge in fuel prices, as concerns grow over rising operational costs in the transport sector.
Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon held a telephonic conversation with Malik Shehzad Awan, during which he was briefed on the challenges faced by transporters after the increase in petroleum prices.
Memon said the provincial government is fully aware of the difficulties confronting the transport sector and is committed to providing maximum possible support. He noted that rising fuel prices are a national-level issue affecting multiple sectors of the economy.
He added that the Sindh government is seriously considering practical proposals to provide relief, emphasizing that the transport sector serves as the backbone of the country’s economy and cannot be overlooked.
The minister also stated that consultations would be held with relevant authorities regarding potential relief in toll taxes and other provincial levies, as part of a joint strategy to address the sector’s concerns.
Meanwhile, the president of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance said transporters have requested both provincial and federal governments to grant relief in toll taxes and other charges, warning that continued fuel price increases have made operations increasingly difficult.
He added that a coordination committee meeting is scheduled later in the day, after which a future course of action will be announced.
