Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Pakistani government has set a target to secure parliamentary approval of the federal budget before Ashura, according to official sources, with both the National Assembly and Senate sessions expected to continue without interruption.
Officials said the budget session, which began on June 12, will remain ongoing until the budget is passed, with no breaks planned except for the Ashura holiday.
According to parliamentary sources, the government aims to pass the budget by June 23 or 24, before the beginning of the Ashura period. If the budget is not approved by then, sessions will continue without any additional holidays apart from the Ashura break.
Sources added that even weekend breaks have been suspended as part of the effort to ensure timely passage of the budget. However, supplementary grants are expected to be considered after the Muharram holidays.
A meeting of parliamentary leaders, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, reportedly agreed to keep the assembly in continuous session until the budget is finalized.
