Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Sindh Cabinet has approved enhanced powers to control prices of essential food items amid rising inflation. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, attended by provincial ministers, advisors, special assistants, and senior officials.

The Chief Minister directed strict action against profiteering and hoarding, emphasizing that public access to essential goods at government-regulated prices must be ensured, particularly during Ramadan.

Under the new directives, Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners have been empowered as special magistrates for price control enforcement. Assistant Commissioners have been instructed to actively monitor markets and take immediate action against artificial price hikes.

The Chief Secretary reported ongoing crackdowns, including inspection of 870 shops and imposition of fines totaling PKR 24 million. Murad Ali Shah stressed that tackling hoarders and profiteers is a priority, stating that relief for citizens during Ramadan is the government’s foremost responsibility.

The Sindh Cabinet also approved ex-post facto measures to strengthen the Price Control Act, ensuring rapid penalties and enforcement against violators.
