Shehbaz, Erdogan and MBS Expected to Hold Key New York Talks
ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman are expected to hold a trilateral meeting in New York on September 24, according to a report citing sources.
The anticipated meeting comes during the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly and against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the Gulf and wider Middle East.
According to The Express Tribune, Pakistan is preparing for the meeting between the three leaders, with regional developments and their implications for trilateral security cooperation expected to feature in the discussions. The report describes the September 24 meeting as expected rather than confirmed, an important distinction as official schedules can change.
The report said the leaders are also expected to discuss developments affecting their defence arrangement. It said Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed a joint defence agreement in Makkah on August 7 aimed at strengthening collective security, with an armed attack on one country treated as an attack on all three.
The proposed talks would take place as regional security remains under pressure from continuing tensions across the Gulf and Middle East.
Shehbaz has arrived in New York following a stopover in London and is scheduled to participate in a series of meetings during the UN General Assembly’s high-level week, according to the Tribune report. His programme includes an address to the UN General Assembly on September 25.
Erdogan is also in the United States for the 81st UN General Assembly, according to Anadolu Agency’s current coverage, adding another independently supported element to the reported diplomatic activity in New York.
The reported trilateral meeting would bring together the leaders of Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia at a time when security developments in the Gulf are placing increased attention on regional diplomatic and defence coordination.
However, as of the available reporting on September 22, the specific trilateral meeting remains expected and source-based rather than independently confirmed through an official announcement from all three governments.
