Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has advised national all-rounder Shadab Khan to respond to criticism with on-field performance rather than public statements targeting former players.
The guidance comes after Shadab sparked debate following Pakistan’s loss to India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, when he noted that former cricketers “did not achieve what we have done,” referring to Pakistan’s historic win over India in the previous World Cup.
Speaking on a local news channel, Afridi acknowledged that Shadab was right to defend his teammates, but reminded him that after the 2021 T20 World Cup victory against India, the team struggled to handle honor and pressure. Afridi emphasized that failing to manage such expectations led to internal issues and individual pressure affecting team cohesion.
Afridi also recalled supporting Shadab during his poor form when he was dropped from the team, highlighting his all-round skills and importance to Pakistan’s cricket setup.
Afridi praised Shadab’s professionalism but reiterated that consistent performance is the most effective response to criticism. Drawing on his own career, he noted that he endured severe public criticism yet responded through strong performances against top teams.
Afridi concluded by encouraging Shadab to focus on delivering in matches, promising that critics would eventually fall silent once results speak for themselves.
