Russia to Offer 4,000 Scholarships to International Students in 2027
MOSCOW: Russia has announced plans to offer 4,000 scholarships to international students in 2027, creating new opportunities for talented applicants seeking higher education at Russian universities.
Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Naiyl M. Latypov announced the initiative during an official visit to Bukit Mertajam Hospital in Penang, highlighting Russia’s efforts to expand international educational cooperation.
The scholarship programme will be conducted through a competition known as the Knowledge Tournament. Successful candidates will receive opportunities to pursue university studies in Russia for five to six years.
The announcement also includes an increase in scholarship opportunities for Malaysian students. Their allocation is expected to rise to 60 in 2027, compared with 40 in 2026 and 20 previously.
The initiative comes as Russia seeks to strengthen its educational and medical cooperation with Malaysia. Latypov highlighted the contribution of Russian universities to Malaysia’s healthcare sector, noting that nearly 7,000 Malaysian doctors have graduated from Russian institutions.
However, the number of Malaysians currently studying medicine in Russia has declined from approximately 600 to around 400, prompting renewed efforts to attract students.
The wider scholarship initiative is expected to provide opportunities to talented students from different countries interested in pursuing higher education in Russia.
Pakistani students interested in these opportunities should monitor announcements from the Russian Embassy and relevant educational institutions for country-specific eligibility requirements, competition schedules and application procedures.
The initiative represents an expansion of Russia’s international education outreach and its efforts to attract students through academic competitions and university-based opportunities.
