Ghalibaf Says US Voters Rejected War After Republican Election Losses

Date:

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf says American voters sent an anti-war message through the 2026 midterm elections as Democrats made major gains against Donald Trump’s Republican Party.

TEHRAN: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has described the Republican Party’s losses in the 2026 US midterm elections as a sign that American voters rejected war, linking the election outcome to concerns over living costs and military conflict.

In a statement published on social media platform X on Wednesday, November 4, Ghalibaf said Americans had delivered a message against war, which Iran supported.

“Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message,” he wrote.

Ghalibaf also warned the US administration against ignoring public opinion and pursuing policies that he said served international interests rather than the wishes of American citizens.

His remarks came after Democrats secured major victories in the November 3 midterm elections, gaining control of both chambers of Congress and dealing a significant political setback to President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

The Iranian official linked the Republican losses to public dissatisfaction with the conflict involving Iran and the economic pressures facing American households.

Rising gasoline prices and concerns over the cost of living have become important issues in the American political debate. The Iran conflict has also contributed to uncertainty in global energy markets and increased pressure on fuel prices.

Trump has separately acknowledged that the Iran war played a role in Republican election losses, although he defended his administration’s military policy and maintained that its actions served American interests.

Ghalibaf’s comments reflect Tehran’s effort to present the American election outcome as a rejection of Washington’s military approach towards Iran.

However, his interpretation represents the Iranian leadership’s political assessment of the results rather than an independently established explanation of individual voting decisions.

The election outcome is expected to create additional political challenges for Trump’s administration as Democrats prepare to exercise greater congressional oversight and challenge its policies.

Tensions between Washington and Tehran remain a major international concern, particularly amid continuing disagreements over military operations, regional security and diplomatic negotiations.
