Rubio Says US Will Work to Dismantle International Criminal Court

Date:

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States will work with its allies to gradually dismantle the International Criminal Court (ICC), arguing that the court should not have authority over the US constitutional and judicial system.

Washington, United States – Web Desk: Speaking on the issue, Rubio said the US government would use its available resources and coordinate with partner nations to challenge the ICC’s influence. He added that Washington would not allow what he described as hostile governments or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to override the US Constitution or its legal institutions.

Rubio’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Washington and the ICC following the court’s actions involving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the conflict in Gaza. Netanyahu and Israeli officials have rejected the allegations.

The United States is not a member of the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the ICC, and has long disputed the court’s jurisdiction over US nationals and certain allied countries.
