US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could expand its military campaign against Iran if Tehran does not agree to a new deal, saying critical infrastructure could become future targets.
Washington, United States – Web Desk: Speaking in a recent interview, Trump said US military operations against Iran would continue “until I say enough is enough.” He claimed Washington had held talks with Iranian officials on Tuesday and urged Tehran to reach an agreement.
Trump said energy infrastructure would be considered in the later stages of any military campaign and warned that if negotiations failed, the United States could target Iran’s power plants and bridges as early as next week.
“We will destroy all of Iran’s power plants and all of its bridges,” Trump said, adding that Iran still retained some military capability but claimed it had been significantly weakened.
Trump also appeared to reverse his earlier comments regarding a proposed 20% transit fee for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Less than 24 hours after suggesting the measure, he said he disliked the idea of charging tolls in the strategic waterway and did not believe anyone should impose such a fee.
He further claimed that Gulf states would prefer to invest in the United States rather than pay transit charges.
There was no immediate response from Iranian officials to Trump’s latest remarks.
