Iran’s parliament convened its first session following the recent conflict with the United States, with lawmakers calling for the termination of the existing memorandum of understanding with Washington and demanding retaliation over what they described as the “martyrdom” of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: According to Iran’s state media, 180 members of the 290-seat parliament signed a statement urging the government to abandon the memorandum of understanding with the United States and adopt what they described as a new strategic approach.
During the session, lawmakers also approved amendments to parliamentary procedures that would allow virtual sessions to be held during national emergencies.
A separate bill concerning the strategic management of the Strait of Hormuz was introduced for parliamentary consideration, reflecting the waterway’s growing importance amid heightened regional tensions.
State media reported that several lawmakers carried red flags, a symbol often associated with calls for retaliation, while urging action against the United States over the reported death of Ayatollah Khamenei.
Members of parliament also pledged full support for Iran’s armed forces and called for the establishment of a special commission to oversee future negotiations.
