Azma Bukhari expresses regret and seeks forgiveness after woman and infant die in Lahore mishap
Lahore, Pakistan | Web Desk: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has publicly apologized to the family affected by the tragic Bhatti Gate incident, in which a woman and her nine-month-old baby fell into an open manhole near Data Darbar.
Earlier, the minister had dismissed reports of the incident as fake news, claiming rescue teams had found no evidence of an accident. Following protests by the victim’s family, the Chief Minister of Punjab ordered a continuation of rescue operations. The bodies of Saadia and her infant were eventually recovered several kilometers away after hours of search.
In her apology, Azma Bukhari expressed deep sorrow and remorse, stating she was ready to resign but refrained following the CM’s instructions. She emphasized her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and called for public prayers for their safety.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, raising questions about public safety, accountability of officials, and government response to emergencies in Lahore.
