PSX Surges Over 1,850 Points as KSE-100 Stages Strong Rebound
KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: The Pakistan Stock Exchange staged a strong rebound on Tuesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index surging more than 1,850 points in afternoon trading as investors returned to equities following the previous session’s sharp sell-off.
The KSE-100 climbed to 167,723.40 points at 2:43pm, representing an increase of 1,856.09 points, or 1.12%, from the previous close of 165,867.31.
The benchmark touched an intraday high of 167,728.17 points, while its session low stood at 165,651.67 points, reflecting a swing of more than 2,000 points between the day’s lowest and highest levels.
KSE-100 trading volume reached approximately 131.83 million shares by 2:43pm.
The broader All Share Index also strengthened, rising more than 1,000 points as buying momentum spread across the market.
Tuesday’s recovery followed a difficult session on Monday, when the benchmark lost more than 2,288 points amid heightened domestic political uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and concerns over elevated international crude oil prices.
The KSE-100 had closed Monday at 165,867.31 points after suffering broad-based selling across major sectors.
Trading on Tuesday initially showed a more measured recovery.
By midday, the benchmark had gained around 550 points, but buying accelerated later in the session, pushing the index above 167,700 points.
Investor interest was visible across major sectors including commercial banks, cement, automobiles, oil and gas exploration, oil marketing companies, power generation and refineries.
The rebound also coincided with some easing in international crude oil prices, providing relief for an economy that remains heavily dependent on imported energy.
Pakistan’s ongoing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund also remain an important factor for market sentiment.
Islamabad and the IMF are working towards a possible staff-level agreement as discussions over economic and financial policy commitments continue.
Despite Tuesday’s strong recovery, domestic political developments and continuing tensions in the Middle East remain significant risks for investor sentiment.
The KSE-100 also remains below recent highs, meaning the latest rally recovers only part of the losses sustained during recent volatile sessions.
Investors are expected to continue monitoring political developments, IMF negotiations, international oil prices and regional security conditions for direction in coming sessions.
The latest verified PSX data available for Tuesday showed the benchmark firmly in positive territory at 2:43pm.
