Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed optimism that ongoing dialogue between the United States and Iran could soon lead to lasting peace in the region.
Addressing the sixth Paigham-e-Islam Conference in Islamabad, organized by the Pakistan Ulema Council, the prime minister said Pakistan would continue to play a constructive role in promoting regional stability and diplomacy.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the defence of Islam’s holiest sites, stating that the protection of the Haramain Sharifain remains a core national priority, supported by mutual defence agreements.
The prime minister also thanked Mohammed bin Salman, as well as the governments of China and Turkey, for their role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in bringing both sides to the negotiating table, noting that direct talks between the United States and Iran took place in Islamabad for the first time since the Iranian Revolution.
He also acknowledged the role of senior leadership, including Ishaq Dar, in advancing diplomatic engagement, and praised ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalation.
On broader issues, the prime minister said elements promoting division and violence do not represent Islam, reiterating Pakistan’s consistent stance on key international issues, including Kashmir and Palestine, where he reaffirmed support for the rights of affected populations.
