Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has credited U.S. President Donald Trump with helping secure a ceasefire between Pakistan and India last year, saying Trump would be remembered as a “man of peace” for his role in reducing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence hosted by the U.S. Mission in Pakistan, the prime minister congratulated President Trump, the U.S. administration and the American people on the occasion.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan and the United States share a relationship spanning more than eight decades, with cooperation across counterterrorism, trade, investment and education. He noted that the United States was among the first countries to recognize Pakistan after its independence and highlighted Washington’s contributions to Pakistan’s agricultural and educational development.
Referring to regional security, the prime minister said that after tensions escalated between Pakistan and India last year, Trump’s timely intervention helped prevent further conflict and contributed to a ceasefire. He added that the U.S. president would be remembered for promoting peace and dialogue.
Shehbaz also said Pakistan is playing the role of a sincere intermediary between the United States and Iran and expressed appreciation for the trust shown by both countries. He further praised Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his efforts toward regional peace, stability and diplomacy.
The event highlighted the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and the United States and reaffirmed commitments to cooperation on shared economic and security interests.
