West Bank, Palestinian Territories – Web Desk: A 29-year-old Palestinian man was wounded after being shot by an Israeli settler near the village of Duma in the northern occupied West Bank, according to Israeli and Palestinian sources.
Israeli media, citing a police spokesperson, reported that the incident occurred near an agricultural outpost close to Duma. Police said the Palestinian man approached the area carrying a large stone and was displaying what authorities described as unusual and suspicious behavior.
According to the police statement, the settler felt threatened and opened fire. Israeli police said the shooting was intended to push the man back and prevent what the settler believed could be a potential attack.
Security forces later arrived at the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian news agency WAFA, citing Palestinian Red Crescent medical teams, reported that the injured man has a mental disability. Medical personnel said he sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen and leg before being transferred for treatment.
Palestinian Authority officials called for a full and transparent investigation, arguing that the man’s reported mental condition should be taken into account when examining the circumstances of the shooting. They also urged the international community to closely monitor the case and emphasize the protection of human rights.
Israeli authorities have not publicly commented on the Palestinian claims regarding the victim’s mental disability. The investigation remains ongoing.
