Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk:Pakistan and the World Bank have agreed to strengthen development cooperation, prioritising economic stability, climate goals and sectoral reforms.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and the World Bank’s country director, who reaffirmed continued support for Pakistan’s stability and environmental objectives.
Both sides discussed priorities under the Country Partnership Framework (CPF), focusing on human capital development, population management, climate change mitigation and agricultural reforms.
Aurangzeb stressed the importance of effective implementation of CPF initiatives and stronger coordination between federal and provincial governments. He emphasised the need for active participation of federal ministries to enhance policy execution and development outcomes.
Transparency and Monitoring Emphasised
The discussions highlighted the significance of transparency and robust monitoring mechanisms in development projects to ensure efficient use of resources and measurable results.
Agricultural productivity and value-chain improvements were identified as key areas for reform, with encouragement for greater private sector involvement and expanded access to agricultural finance. Both the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation reiterated their support for Pakistan’s agricultural modernisation efforts.
Energy sector reforms and financial sustainability were also addressed, with agreement to continue technical-level negotiations aimed at improving efficiency and long-term viability.
The Finance Ministry stated that the government remains committed to structural reforms and enhanced governance as part of its broader development strategy in partnership with international institutions.
The collaboration is expected to support Pakistan’s economic resilience, climate adaptation efforts and sustainable growth objectives amid ongoing global and domestic challenges.
