Pakistan has strongly condemned threats by Yemen’s Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, warning that any threat to Pakistan-flagged vessels would be regarded as a matter of national security.
Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: In a statement, the Foreign Office described threats against Saudi Arabia and international commercial shipping as unacceptable. It said any action targeting vessels sailing under the Pakistani flag would be treated as a threat to Pakistan’s national security.
The Foreign Office added that Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary and lawful measures to safeguard its maritime interests and ensure the security of its commercial shipping.
Reaffirming Islamabad’s support for Saudi Arabia, the statement underscored Pakistan’s commitment to the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of navigation in the Red Sea and maintaining uninterrupted global trade.
Pakistan called on all parties to respect international law, exercise restraint and pursue efforts to reduce regional tensions.
The statement came after the Houthis announced a naval blockade targeting Saudi Arabia, prompting strong international reactions. US President Donald Trump also warned that Washington would respond if the Houthis acted on threats to disrupt shipping in the Red Sea.
