Veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah has strongly criticized the police crackdown on student protesters in New Delhi, expressing anger over the reported use of force during demonstrations.
New Delhi, India – Web Desk: In an emotional statement shared on social media, Shah condemned the baton charge on students and compared the actions of some Delhi Police personnel to those of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, accusing authorities of responding to peaceful protests with excessive force.
The actor said he was “filled with anger” over what he described as the treatment of young protesters. He urged students not to lose hope, saying many people across the country stood in solidarity with them and supported their right to continue their peaceful struggle.
Shah also criticized the government, saying public memory would hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
The remarks came after members of the youth-led Cockroach Janata Party attempted to march toward Parliament while demanding the resignation of India’s education minister. Police intervened to stop the march, with reports of baton charges against demonstrators.
