WASHINGTON, United States – Web Desk: Pakistan’s diplomatic intervention has reportedly led to the removal of two senior Iranian officials from a US target list, in a move seen as a potential breakthrough for ongoing peace efforts.
According to a report by Reuters, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf were taken off the list following Islamabad’s request to Washington.
Sources cited in the report said Pakistan argued that targeting key political figures would derail any chance of negotiations between the United States and Iran. Officials stressed that ensuring the safety of senior leadership was essential to keep diplomatic channels open.
Pakistan reportedly urged US authorities to support de-escalation efforts by avoiding actions that could further inflame tensions or shut down dialogue.
The report also suggested that Washington had advised Israel to exercise restraint, aiming to preserve the possibility of diplomatic engagement amid escalating regional conflict.
Analysts view the development as a significant diplomatic step, highlighting Pakistan’s emerging role as a mediator in the crisis. The move is expected to support ongoing efforts toward a potential ceasefire and broader negotiations in the Middle East.
