Pakistan, Poland Agree to Boost Security and Intelligence Cooperation
ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Pakistan and Poland have agreed to strengthen cooperation in intelligence sharing, counterterrorism and law enforcement as the two countries seek to expand their bilateral security partnership.
The understanding was reached during talks in Islamabad involving Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and visiting Polish minister Tomasz Siemoniak, who serves as Poland’s Coordinator of Special Services.
The discussions covered bilateral relations, security cooperation, counterterrorism, illegal migration and closer coordination between law-enforcement agencies.
Both countries also agreed to accelerate work on several memoranda of understanding, including arrangements related to mutual legal assistance. A delegation from Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, led by Talal Chaudhry, is expected to visit Poland as part of efforts to advance cooperation.
Pakistan highlighted its measures against narcotics trafficking, illegal migration and organised crime during the talks. The government said illegal migration from Pakistan towards Europe had fallen by 64% following measures taken to curb irregular migration.
The two sides also discussed expanding legal migration and employment opportunities for Pakistani citizens in Europe. Siemoniak welcomed Pakistani nationals seeking to enter Poland through legal channels.
Counterterrorism featured prominently in the discussions, with both sides expressing support for deeper coordination on security challenges and regional stability.
The talks extended beyond security, with officials discussing stronger people-to-people, trade and business ties between Pakistan and Poland. Both countries emphasised the importance of expanding economic relations alongside political and security cooperation.
Pakistan also acknowledged Poland’s support regarding the European Union’s GSP+ trade scheme. Officials additionally discussed the possibility of visa-free travel on official passports between the two countries.
Siemoniak’s visit has included high-level engagements with Pakistan’s leadership, reflecting efforts by Islamabad and Warsaw to broaden their longstanding relationship across security, economic and diplomatic areas. His meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also focused on expanding bilateral cooperation.
