Four Police Officers Injured in Attack on Kohat Checkpost
KOHAT, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Four police personnel were injured after armed attackers targeted the Shadi Pur police checkpost in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, triggering an exchange of fire.
The attackers opened fire on the police position, prompting officers stationed at the checkpost to immediately retaliate.
Kohat District Police Officer Rai Mazhar Iqbal said police mounted a strong response during the confrontation. Four personnel sustained injuries in the exchange of fire and were taken for medical treatment.
The attackers subsequently retreated from the area. Police moved additional personnel to the location and launched efforts to trace those involved in the assault.
The identities and medical conditions of the four injured officers were not immediately detailed.
Authorities have described the attackers as militants, while further information about their identities or organisational affiliation remains limited at this stage.
The latest incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Kohat and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where law-enforcement personnel have faced a series of militant attacks.
Kohat was also the scene of a major attack on the Old Police Lines last month that caused heavy casualties among police personnel and civilians, prompting intensified counterterrorism investigations and security measures across the district.
Security agencies have continued operations against militant networks and their facilitators as authorities seek to strengthen protection around police installations and other sensitive locations.
The situation surrounding Wednesday’s attack remains developing, with further details expected as police continue their investigation and search operation.
