Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan marked its 86th Pakistan Day on Saturday with traditional enthusiasm, though ceremonies were held with simplicity and austerity amid regional tensions.
The day began with 31-gun salutes in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals, accompanied by special prayers in mosques for the country’s peace, stability, and prosperity.
Military personnel participating in the salutes chanted patriotic slogans, including “Allahu Akbar” and “Pakistan Zindabad,” while offering prayers for national security and unity.
Authorities scaled down official celebrations this year due to evolving geopolitical conditions in the Middle East and ongoing cost-saving measures. The traditional Pakistan Day military parade was cancelled, and the central flag-hoisting ceremony was conducted in a dignified yet modest manner.
A ceremonial changing of the guard took place at the Mazar-e-Iqbal, where a Pakistan Air Force contingent assumed security duties, replacing the Sutlej Rangers. The event featured a formal march-past, reinforcing the significance of the day.
Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Shahid Afzal attended as the chief guest, laid a floral wreath, and offered prayers at the mausoleum, later recording his remarks in the visitors’ book.
Pakistan Day commemorates the historic Lahore Resolution of 1940 and the adoption of the country’s first constitution on March 23, 1956, which declared Pakistan an Islamic republic. The day was officially celebrated for the first time in 1959 and has since remained a symbol of national unity and constitutional progress.
