Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s Power Division has introduced a QR code-based registration system for electricity subsidy users as part of efforts to improve transparency and ensure government financial relief reaches eligible and deserving consumers.
According to an official statement from the Power Division, electricity distribution companies have begun implementing new measures to clearly display subsidy details on monthly electricity bills. Consumers will now be able to see the exact amount of subsidy provided by the government each month.
The Ministry of Energy said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that subsidies are delivered to low-income and low-consumption households in a fair and efficient manner.
Under the new system, a QR code will be printed on the electricity bills of eligible consumers. By scanning the code, users will be directed to an online portal where they must complete a simple registration process.
Officials emphasized that the registration process is only intended to verify eligibility and ensure that financial assistance continues for deserving families, particularly low-income households.
They clarified that the initiative does not indicate any withdrawal or reduction in subsidies. Instead, it is designed to improve the transparent and targeted use of public funds and reduce misuse of taxpayer money.
The government reiterated that supporting low- and middle-income households remains a top priority and that the reform aims to strengthen accountability in the energy sector.
Consumers experiencing billing errors or technical issues have been advised to contact their respective electricity distribution company’s helpline for assistance.
Authorities said the system is part of broader digital reforms aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and fairness in public welfare programs.
