Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has sharply criticized the United States, accusing Washington of undermining diplomatic negotiations through what he described as “backstabbing” behavior during talks with Iran.
According to Iran’s presidential office, Pezeshkian made the remarks during a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, saying that US actions had shifted diplomacy away from negotiations toward pressure, threats, and sanctions.
The Iranian president stated that Tehran has held talks with the United States on two occasions, but on both occasions diplomatic engagement was accompanied by continued military actions against Iran, which he said destroyed trust in the process.
Pezeshkian said that effective negotiations require a complete cessation of hostilities and clear guarantees that no future aggression will take place.
He also rejected allegations related to attacks on the United Arab Emirates, stating that Iran’s armed forces would openly declare any military action it undertakes.
Commenting on the Strait of Hormuz, Pezeshkian said Iran has long played a role in securing the strategic waterway, but accused US naval restrictions of destabilizing the region.
He added that any discussion on fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz would require the lifting of what he called US-imposed naval blockades.
According to the Iranian statement, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed support for a ceasefire framework and said that US naval restrictions and Israeli strikes in Lebanon constitute violations of ceasefire principles.
Macron also reportedly said France is ready to support diplomatic efforts and assist in lifting sanctions as part of a broader negotiation process.
