KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: The final postmortem report in the Mir Raza Ali death case has ruled out suicide, confirming that the young Karachi businessman died from a gunshot wound, Sindh Police said on Monday.
The report was prepared after the exhumation of Mir Raza Ali’s body and was based on chemical analysis, forensic findings and other available evidence, according to a Sindh Police spokesperson.
Police said the investigation team has received the final report and is reviewing its findings to determine the next steps in the inquiry.
Final report rules out suicide
The latest finding represents a significant development in a case that had generated public concern and controversy over the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death.
Sindh Police said the final report conclusively ruled out suicide and established a gunshot injury as the cause of death. The report followed a second postmortem examination conducted after Ali’s body was exhumed.
Earlier medical findings had identified a firearm injury and multiple other injuries on his body.
Mir Raza was found dead in Karachi
Mir Raza Ali, an IBA graduate and young businessman, was reported missing on July 28.
His body was recovered from the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi on July 29, according to Geo News.
His father, Mir Hussain, had consistently rejected suggestions that his son had died by suicide and maintained that he had been murdered.
The case subsequently came under increased scrutiny after questions were raised over deficiencies in the initial postmortem examination.
Second postmortem uncovered firearm injury
A second examination following exhumation identified a firearm entry wound on Ali’s upper back, with an exit wound on the opposite side of his body, according to the earlier postmortem reporting.
The examination also documented multiple injuries and signs of trauma. The findings prompted authorities to reconsider the initial direction of the investigation.
Earlier forensic testing also reported gunshot residue on samples taken from Ali’s body, including his hands, chest and back wounds.
Judicial commission examines investigation
The development comes as a judicial commission established to examine the case has already begun proceedings.
Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial summoned the medico-legal officer, police officials and ambulance drivers during the commission’s first hearing.
The commission has said its role is to identify mistakes and examine potential shortcomings in the investigation, police performance and possible negligence under its terms of reference.
Mir Raza’s parents and sister appeared before the commission, while family lawyer Jibran Nasir also represented the family.
Investigation to proceed on final findings
Sindh Police said the investigation team is now reviewing the final postmortem report and will proceed in light of its findings.
The final report provides an important medical finding regarding the cause of death, but the wider circumstances surrounding Ali’s death — including who was responsible and how the shooting occurred — remain matters for investigators to establish.
The investigation and judicial proceedings are expected to examine the available forensic evidence, witness accounts and other evidence before determining criminal responsibility.
