Severe rainfall triggers deadly landslide in Sicily, Italy; dozens of homes and vehicles destroyed.

Sicily, Italy – Web Desk: Heavy rainfall and storms have triggered a massive landslide in the town of Niscemi, Sicily, leaving dozens of homes and vehicles precariously hanging before collapsing. The landslide stretches across a 4 km area, destroying luxury homes and blocking roads.

Local authorities quickly evacuated over 1,000 residents to safe areas, declaring the region a no-go zone. Fortunately, early rescue efforts and timely weather warnings have prevented casualties, though the affected homes are now uninhabitable.

The Italian government has declared a state of emergency for Sicily and other southern regions, allocating an initial €100 million in relief funds. This incident highlights the ongoing risks of landslides in Sicily’s soil and coastal terrain, previously prone to similar disasters.
