Maryam Nawaz Urges Youth to Reject Hatred and Political Unrest

Date:

(Web Desk) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday urged young people across Pakistan to reject division, hatred, and unrest, emphasizing the importance of political tolerance and unity while addressing a laptop distribution ceremony at a university in Gujrat.

Speaking to students, she said political disagreements were natural in a democratic society but should never evolve into personal hostility or social division. “Policy differences are one thing, but personal enmity must never take root,” she said, adding that her party had never advocated denying basic necessities or services to political opponents.

Referring to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, she recalled that he had previously emphasized equal provision of facilities for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation. She also highlighted her personal stance, stating that she had never wished hardship upon any political rival, including those currently in prison.

Maryam Nawaz referred to her father’s past health challenges during incarceration, noting that his declining platelet count had been mocked publicly and that he suffered multiple heart attacks while in custody at the age of 73. She said such experiences reinforced the importance of humane political conduct and respect for opponents.

The chief minister stressed that political power was temporary and should be viewed as a public trust. “Power is transient. Yesterday we were in jail; today we are in office,” she said, urging young people to focus on education and constructive engagement.

Addressing residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, she appealed for greater awareness and criticized what she described as unrest and economic disruptions in the province. She alleged that certain groups were encouraging road blockades and instability, contrasting this with what she described as development and educational initiatives in Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized national unity, stating that she identified as “Pakistani first,” and called for increased educational opportunities for children across all provinces. She concluded by urging youth to embrace education, reject violence, and contribute positively to Pakistan’s future.
