Cambridge, United States – Web Desk: Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers has announced his resignation from his academic roles at Harvard University following renewed scrutiny over his past associations with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Harvard confirmed that Summers will step down from his professorship and all academic positions at the end of the current academic year. He has also resigned from his leadership role at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government.
The move comes after documents related to Epstein’s relationships with prominent figures resurfaced, drawing attention to correspondence between Summers and Epstein. Epstein had previously made substantial donations to Harvard, and disclosures of communication between the two prompted criticism.
In a statement, Summers described the decision as difficult and expressed gratitude for more than five decades in academia, highlighting his work with students and colleagues. He said he intends to continue contributing through research, economic analysis, and commentary on global economic issues.
Summers served as U.S. Treasury Secretary during the Clinton administration and later as president of Harvard University for five years.
The renewed attention to Epstein’s connections with influential figures continues to have repercussions across academic and political circles.
