Washington, United States – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has agreed not only to refrain from developing nuclear weapons but also not to acquire such weapons through any means, describing the move as a significant step forward in ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Speaking in an interview with a US television network, Trump said he preferred reaching a diplomatic agreement over further conflict, arguing that a successful deal could help ease tensions in the region and facilitate the reopening of key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Trump, the United States’ primary objective remains ensuring that Iran does not possess nuclear weapons. He said Iran’s initial position focused on not producing nuclear weapons, but following discussions with US negotiators, the framework was expanded to include a commitment not to purchase, obtain, or seek nuclear-capable military weapons in any form.
Trump acknowledged that Iranian negotiators have maintained a tough stance throughout the talks, adding that negotiations are taking time. However, he said Washington is focused on achieving a durable and sustainable agreement rather than rushing toward a short-term outcome.
Discussing broader regional developments, Trump also claimed that US forces had targeted Iranian military leaders and strategic sites while deliberately avoiding actions that could completely dismantle Iran’s state institutions. He argued that lessons learned from previous conflicts, particularly in Iraq, demonstrated that destroying a country’s governing structures can contribute to long-term instability.
The comments come amid continued diplomatic efforts over Iran’s nuclear program and growing international attention on security and stability in the Middle East.
