KARACHI: Although the monsoon low that led to showers across Sindh, including Karachi, has now dissipated, the streets and roads are still inundated with water and traffic jams have become a routine.Light rain in Korangi locality of the port city on Thursday led to a traffic gridlock, creating great inconvenience for the people.
Light rain and drizzle were also reported from Shah Faisal, DHA, Buffer Zone, Lyari, Mehran Town, Mehmoodabad, Landhi, Surjani Town, Baldia Town, Nazimabad and Gulistan-e-Johar.
The highest amount of rainfall during the last 24 hours was reported from Surjani Town where 143.8 millimeters of rainfall was recorded, while 109.8 millimeters of rain was recorded in Gulshan-e-Maimar and 92 millimeters in Korangi and Gulshan-e-Hadeed each.
Similarly, DHA Phase-II received 33 millimeters of rain; Keamari 20 millimeters; Masroor Airbase 19 millimeters; North Karachi 13 millimeters; University Road, Faisal Base, Airport Old Area and Orangi Town 12 millimeters each; Saadi Town and Jinnah Terminal eight millimeters each; Nazimabad five millimeters and Bahria Town three millimeters.
In Saadi Town, water entered people’s homes, while residential colonies were flooded after nullahs in Korangi burst their banks.
The rain received by other towns and cities in Sindh and Balochistan is as under:
Badin 12 millimeters, Hyderabad airport: five millimeters, city one millimeter, Mithi and Pid Eden two millimeters each, Ormara 30 millimeters, Pasni 11 millimeters, Lasbela 10 millimeters and Gwadar five millimeters.
