DHAKA, Bangladesh – Web Desk: Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for a “conducive environment” to reset relations with India, signalling a possible effort to improve ties between the two South Asian neighbours after a period of diplomatic strain.
Speaking during a meeting with visiting Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma at the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka on Monday, Rahman said Bangladesh wants to move forward with India on the basis of mutual respect and understanding.
The Bangladeshi prime minister said the two countries share a long history and that maintaining constructive relations would benefit both sides.
Dhaka seeks improved relations
Rahman said Bangladesh is ready to work toward creating an environment that allows the two countries to address outstanding issues and rebuild confidence.
The meeting reportedly covered bilateral relations, regional developments and matters of mutual interest.
The outreach comes as Dhaka seeks to recalibrate its foreign policy following significant political changes in Bangladesh and amid evolving relations between South Asian countries.
