(Web Desk) – Karachi witnessed scattered thunderstorms accompanied by rain and localized hail on Tuesday, bringing relief from the usual winter chill and creating a pleasant atmosphere across the city.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several neighborhoods, including Malir, Mochko, Gulistan-e-Johar, Federal B Area, Lyari, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and University Road. Residents reported the sudden showers as a welcome change, with many taking to social media to share images and videos of the rainfall.
In addition to rain, some areas including the airport vicinity, Malir Cantt, Gulistan-e-Johar, and Karimabad experienced hail, which contributed to cooler temperatures and added a striking visual effect to the stormy weather. Local authorities advised motorists to drive cautiously due to slippery roads caused by hail accumulation in certain areas.
The PMD had earlier forecasted light to moderate rain with occasional thunderstorms for Karachi, in line with the ongoing winter weather pattern affecting southern Sindh. Meteorologists stated that these weather conditions are typical for this period and are expected to continue intermittently over the coming days.
The rainfall and hail not only brought temporary relief from the cold but also helped improve air quality in the densely populated city, where pollution levels often rise due to vehicular traffic and industrial activity. Residents welcomed the cooler temperatures, noting that the combination of rain and hail created a refreshing and pleasant environment.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant during thunderstorms, avoid standing under tall trees or open areas, and monitor updates from the PMD for weather warnings and forecasts.
With winter approaching its peak, meteorologists advise Karachi residents to prepare for occasional heavy showers and hail events, which could affect daily activities but also provide much-needed respite from the dry, cold spell.
