Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, visited Tehran for high-level discussions with Iranian leaders as regional tensions continue to raise concerns about wider conflict in the Middle East.

The talks on Monday, October 26, brought together officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye with Iranian representatives. Saudi Arabia was represented by Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, while Türkiye’s delegation included intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin.

The discussions focused on regional security, diplomatic coordination and possible ways to reduce tensions. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the four-country meeting had been proposed by Field Marshal Munir during his previous visit to Iran, and Iranian authorities had accepted the initiative.

Regional developments, including Israeli policies, the situation in Lebanon and the consequences of US and Israeli military actions against Iran, were among the issues expected to feature in the discussions.

The meeting also carries significance in the context of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in August 2026. Under the pact, an armed attack against one member is treated as an attack against all three. The agreement has gained attention amid escalating security concerns, including attacks on Saudi Arabia claimed by Yemen’s Houthi movement.

Pakistan has maintained diplomatic engagement with Tehran while also strengthening its security commitments to Saudi Arabia. Islamabad has previously played a role in efforts to facilitate negotiations between Iran and the United States.

The latest discussions offer another channel for regional governments to address shared security concerns through direct engagement. However, no comprehensive agreement or final outcome from the talks had been publicly confirmed at the time of reporting.

The developments will be closely watched as regional governments seek to contain further escalation and explore diplomatic options amid continuing uncertainty.
